Under the Asset page there is a section with the heading Meta Information and a required notes comments field. I want to make it not required but not sure where to do that.

Delete this field and then add a new notes field.
Do not select the required field 😄 Then you can add it to the asset information, and no more required notes box!

Can you provide a screenshot of the required notes field?
I went to reproduce this but did not see the required notes fields on an assets details page.
+15This sounds like a custom field was set up by one of the admins and the field was set as “Required”. We made the mistake with a few of our initial custom fields and making them “Required” or “Sensitive”, it was making ticket notifications wonky until we fixed it.

I was thinking the same thing but not seeing that they set up a required custom field.
I am experiencing the same issue. I am trying to edit an Asset but it’s telling me the Notes/Comments section is required. I checked in custom fields and it appears to be a built-in field rather than a custom field. I’m not sure how to change it so it’s not required. Here is a screenshot:
