Good Morning @GFranseth 400b11b butlertech ! Thank you for your question.
Just to clarify: you would like to run a report that shows every asset model that is in service so you then can make them retired in iiQ?
Please let me know and I can advise further.
Thank you!
My goal is to identify models that we do not use and to either delete or remove visibility for those models (not assets).
To do this, if I had a report that should be every model and how many assets were associated with those, I could target the ones with 0 count so that I could determine if they should be deleted or hidden and thus remove clutter and opportunity for error.
Unfortunately, I cannot just pull the assets and do such counts in Excel because models with no assets would not be included.
@Melissa_iiQ Just checking in to see if my reply made sense.
Hi @GFranseth 400b11b butlertech ! So sorry for the delayed response, I never received a notification!
I think we could best achieve this by using Asset Statuses. We already have a ‘Retired’ but we could create something like ‘Model Retired’ if you want to be more specific.
That way you could run a report on that Status and progress from there to delete/remove the devices.
Another question before we set that up- do you plan to delete/remove these devices from an MDM?
@Melissa_iiQ
I’m not looking to delete or remove devices though. I want to find the models that no longer have active assets and remove the model so that it is no longer cluttering up the system.
So, as an example, right now we are buying (among other things) Lenovo 500Es. We have been for a couple years and will continue to do so for many more. Eventually Lenovo will stop making that device, but the assets will still be in our system, or at least some of them that are not retired. In time though, all of those assets will be retired.
At that point we will have no active assets with that model and no possibility of acquiring more. I would like to remove visibility for that model so that techs do not select it in the future by mistake.
Scenario 2 is simpler. A model gets created by mistake, usually a duplicate. If I’m aware of it, I can just create a view filtered for that model and eyeball it. But given that we have 561 models enabled at present, that is not realistic to do for all of our models.
I cannot even run an all assets view because by definition it would exclude the models with no assets.
I also don’t think I can export the model list, otherwise I could take both reports dump them into excel and compare them using Excel’s features. For now, the best I can do is take the asset list, dump it into excel, pull out the unique models, and then eyeball that list against the models section in IIQ and see what’s not in the excel list for removal. But that’s a very cumbersome process.
If I have misunderstood your suggestion, I apologize. Feel free to clarify for me. Thank you!
