So, has anyone figured out how to use user attributes within an asset view? I have mapped custom fields that show a person’s job title within their user page.

I would like to create an asset view that shows me a device assigned to a user and allows me to filter on these attributes but the attributes aren’t available in an asset view because they are user attributes, and not asset attributes.

is there any way to accomplish this?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Hey @Belcher.shane
Unfortunately, I do not know of a way to accomplish this. As you said, these are user attributes and you can currently only filter by those in a user view. There is an idea (which I see that you have already upvoted 😁) about allowing these attributes to be filterable universally.

Thanks for the reply @Hannah Bailey.  The funny thing is that using the users view you can actually get the data you want but when you go to export it, it won’t let you because it thinks you don’t want multiple records per user.  I would be glad to have multiple records per user if it gave me what want.  Maybe the option to have multiple records per user could be turned on at some point.

There is a workaround that’s not complicated by time consuming

  1. Build the user view as you desire.
  2. Export that user view be sure the export includes either owner email or owner username
  3. create a new asset view
  4. filter new asset view by owner
  5. copy/paste the owner entries from the export, minding the 100 entry limit
  6. wait patiently………………..
  7. You now have the data you were wanting….

It’s limitation is that it’s not dynamic, this can only work for a single moment in time.  Perhaps some API Guru can leverage the basic logic I outlined in order to build something that could handle the process of trying to update the Asset view based on the population of a user view, but that’s way outside my skillset.

I have an assest that has a serial number used as the tag number. The device is in the system twice. One has the tag number and serial number and the other has the serial number as the tag number (twice). I need to know how to merge device, so I have the serial number and tag number showing.

@Cupcake43 Thank you for your question. I have been working on this and cannot find a way to merge them together. You could link them together if you do not want to delete one of them.

This would be a great idea to add to our Idea Exchange here: https://community.incidentiq.com/ideas
