Seems silly to need to filter search results, but the search feature is basically unusable in it’s current state.

I type in part of a name and I get every single user, student, staff, parent, etc that has that name or contains part of that name. And then even worse, there is no order to the results. It isn’t alphabetical, it isn’t sorted any manner that makes sense.

To find exact matches: Quotations (“_” just like in Google) can now be used to execute an exact match word/phrase search in the system as well.  When quotations are not used, a standard keyword search match is performed with the highest matching showing at the top.

I hope this helps 😁

But what is the metric for highest matching?

If I search Smith

The order on the first page is mother, father, father, mother, mother. It isn’t until page 11 I get my first student. The order isn’t alphabetical either, it is just a random order of names. Using quotes doesn’t change the ease of finding anything, just a different order.

@ZGarber 4208988 glshelp If you search for “smith,” you can filter within the user explorer to determine more exact results. Global search will look through all matches to provide your search results so you are looking at a collective across your platform. I would suggest searching with additional details or filtering using one of the custom view filters.

That unfortunately is not always possible as we are given limited information. I know that Smith is a broad example but even if I had a student named Kathryn, and there are 20 of them, the order when I click on users still isn’t alphabetical. Instead of Kathryn A, Kathryn B, Kathryn C, etc, it appears Kathryn D. Kathryn X. Kathryn A, Kathryn E., etc. Making it difficult to find the user we are looking for.

There used to be a “Quick Filter” option that went away when the global search was updated. Many have asked for it back because of situations like this one.

That would be great, I find myself frustrated daily with the “upgraded” search. Or even more options to narrow things down by. Like if I click on users, just show me students, or add that as an option. I don’t need to see their parents.
