Hi there,

I’ve been looking around and trying out the variables mentioned in this KB article: Supported Variable Data Points for Email Notifications | Community (incidentiq.com)

However, I’m just trying to create a general salutation in my comments to users like this:

“Hi {{Ticket.ForFirstName}},”

But either entering it directly into the comment or using a text snippet shortcut doesn’t appear to work. Any advice or help on this would be appreciated, thanks!

You can’t currently use variables in comments, they are only intended for webhooks and custom emails via rules. I think a lot of people have asked about it in the past and there’s some open ideas for it too that you can vote on.

I know it would be really useful for our district, so I’d love to see it happen!

Hi @BAlexander 3678735 district65!😀

@jclark is correct! Currently only supported in email notifications via the rules engine but please go in and add your votes/comments to that open idea!

thanks, that is kind of what I was afraid of. We recently switched from Zendesk and having liquid markup be able to reference other ticket data was crucial. 👍

@BAlexander 3678735 district65 Please comment on why it is so crucial on that idea thread. Our product team is always looking for specific use cases on why things are needed so they can best understand your requests. 😄

Hi All!
Just wanted to provide an update to this question since we have recently released an enhancement and you can now incorporate variables within Comments (and within Shortcuts)!!

Hope this helps streamline your responses!!
