Chromebook carts

We are going to use Chromebook carts in 2 grades this year.  How do you guys assign the Chromebooks  to the carts or room? Our students will not be taking these home so we will just have class sets.  Thanks for the help or advice.

Thank you for submitting your question! 

I’d like to recommend using Linked Assets (only available with the assets module). This feature allows you to link all the Chromebooks to their assigned cart, giving you a clear and organized view of which devices belong to each cart.

Please note that carts must first be added to Incident IQ if they don’t already exist in the system.

We’ve switched away from using the “linked” devices since there’s no way to export that data.  We have virtual users in iiQ that represent each cart & assign the devices to that user.

These are all great options and I always recommend linking assets to carts but to ​@AMeyer Greendale Schools point, it is not easily searched, filtered or exported . Another option could be to create a custom field for Cart and associate it with assets (maybe even specifically Chromebooks so it doesn’t show on all asset details) then you can create views, filter and export.

I am always so happy to see the versatility that iiQ brings to our customers!!! So many options that you can choose what works best for your district!

We have recently switched to classroom carts with 32 assigned devices linked to the cart and then assigned to a staff member of that room. Is there a way when they are putting in a ticket to see their view of the linked assets in that cart.  I have tried changing the role of the staff member but nothing is working as far as them being able to see the list of assets. Help?

@Sherri H Do they have MyClasses enabled? If so, the staff can see any device in their room whether it is checked out to them or not.

Does the cart need to be assigned to the room and not the teacher?   How do we enable MyClasses as I am not sure if this is the issue as she could see her students? Thank you.

@Sherri H Is the Chromebook’s location match the location of the cart? When I did some digging, it looked like she is not able to see the Chromebooks themselves since the cart is assigned tot he room but not all of the devices.

Hi Kathryn,

 

When I try and change the Asset Status to Assigned to Location, Location (school name) and Room it keeps going back to the old asset info? Should the cart be assigned to the staff member of the room? The assets linked are showing the correct room#. Could someone call me on this please?

@Sherri H You are welcome to call support to get a team member to speak with. You can assign the cart to the staff member but if the assets are not linked to the cart, the devices will not show up within the room.
