Historically we have stored student laptops in a locked room over the summer in stacks of 10.  With the ability to assign an asset to a storage container and a slot we would like to give that a try this summer.  For those that are doing this what storage containers are you using?  How well are they holding up year to year?

Great question! @drose807 posted some images here of their storage process. @TAnders @bclark @mcsdwes @cshelden how are you all storing your assets?

We have carts in most rooms that are lockable, that is our go to. We haven’t set up the storage containers in IIQ yet, but we do have the carts set up with the assets linked to them in the system.

Here in our district we have 3 Middle and 3 High Schools serving about 1000 students each.  Storage is in the library.  We purchased plastic 15 gallon tubs 26x17x12, in these we store 10 Dell 3100’s and chargers.  There is room for more but with 10 it is a manageable weight for moving and stacking.   We purchased from uline.com, price was reasonable with free shipping.   This is our first year with 1:1 so long term durability isn’t known yet.

Most of our schools store their Chromebooks into JarCarts for summer storage.  Due to our size we do not assign them to the storage containers inside of IIQ.

We are looking into options for next summer. This year is different because we are getting a full device refresh. Hoping to use the slot/bins next year though.

We use heavy duty bins that have the folding over lids.  The laptops are collected by the teachers(in homeroom) at the end of the school year, they fill out a form to show what was returned and what was not and they zip tie the bin shut so there's no tampering with it after the teacher closes it.  Then we collect the bins from the rooms when the school day is over.

@cmaloney Thank you for sharing your workflow with us! I like the zip tie idea that it is harder to mess with the devices in the dead time between the school years. Do you verify those assets as well?
