Unable to search hyphenated names in Users Explorer?

Best answer by BWalker 810d8d7 polkschoolsfl

From Support: You can omit entering the hyphen as it is not needed for the search. However, because there are a ton of Hernandez, you can search by chavez or hernandez chavez to find the student you are looking for from Users Explorer. You can use the hyphen in Global search and locate the student too.

@BWalker 810d8d7 polkschoolsfl Thank you for submitting your question to our community! 😄

Did you try searching with the name within quotes? For example, “Kathryn-Carter”.

Just tried it and that didn’t work either.

BWalker - How are you searching for the user? Are you typing the last part of the hyphenated name to search? Try with the first part of the hyphenated name first. For example, using Kathryn-Carter, type in K-a-t-h and that should locate the name. The search is is looking from left to right. Let me know if that helps. Thanks!

I was specifically trying to search using the full hyphenated last name, which is why I asked the question. Based on the response I received, it seems the answer is ‘no,’ since I’m being given suggestions for alternative search methods.

If I try K-a-t-h (assuming you meant WITHOUT the hyphens), I get a list of 20 users whose FIRST name starts with that. The user I am searching for is not in the list.

BWalker Do you mind submitting a support ticket so that we can investigate why the user is not currently appearing in the list when searched? There may be another issue going on here. Thank you!

When you say “when searched” are you referring to my initial search with the hyphenated name or the search you suggested?
