Hello, I would like to ask about this since the SCCM setup guide does not give much detail on this. We have IIQ set up with SCCM to map by OUs in Active Directory, however, I have noticed lately that this option has not been creating new assets. When I look for one of these assets in the sync log, I see something like the following error: “Incident IQ Asset tAssetId:asset_tag] was skipped. Location could not be mapped, and no default location mapping exists.”
We do not have a default location mapping set because we have some assets without a fixed location and we want our agents to be able to change location for those assets as necessary, while the default location mapping would keep switching them back to whatever location was set to default.
I’m not sure why the sync is unable to read our location mappings. I’ve tried a few different ways to write the OU path, but none of them have worked. Currently it’s set to Active Directory site]/oDistrict OU]/tComputers OU]/uSchool Level OU]/LBuilding OU]
Has anyone been able to get this kind of a setup working properly? I’d like to know if I’m making a mistake with my OU path syntax.
In order for the assets to not be skipped, you will need to select a default location with the OU mapping.
Location is required for an asset to be created in iiQ. The way this works during a sync is as follows:
- If an asset matches the location mapping, then the asset will get created and assigned to the corresponding location the mapping is set to.
- If an asset does not match a location mapping, or no location mappings are present, and a default location is selected, the asset will be created and assigned to the default location.
- If an asset does not match a custom mapping, or no custom mappings are present, and no default location is set, then the asset will not be created during a sync.
I hope this helps with the reasoning.
I’m not sure I totally understand, so I have a question. Is a set default location needed for the “Map by OU” custom mappings to take effect during a sync?
Okay, thanks for clarifying that. I think we will have to update our settings and see if that resolves our sync issues.
For now, we plan on using a manual import process to get those items entered into the inventory.
I understand from past conversations with our account rep that SCCM has been a bit difficult for IQ to work with, but could I suggest that some kind of setting be added to exclude specific OUs in Active Directory from being subject to the default location mapping?
