Using Rules to change status to In Service when logged in
Good morning! I’ve been trying to figure out how to set device Asset Status to ‘In-Service’ status when they are logged in but have an Asset Status of ‘In-Storage’
My goal.. if something is In Storage, but is actively being used, I’d really like it to be In Service. Can anyone tell me how to make this happen, and if it’s a bad idea, tell me why?
Thanks all!

@BLamb 143a1ff mwcsd Thank you for submitting your question to our community!
For this one, do you use automatic verifications? I think this would be the most effective way to keep the correct statuses for those devices automatically.
Hey @BLamb 143a1ff mwcsd curious about the workflow on this one. Why are assets in storage being used? Is this a loaner system where these devices are being used for a day or is there another scenario? Also, are these devices being checked out when being used?
If these assets are being checked out, you should be able to build a check out rule that will automatically change the asset status when checked out.
they were checked in over the summer, and didn’t all get checked out properly. Occasionally we will also have a broken device swapped out and the tech misses the In Service edit. It’s really to combat people issues..

Ah gotcha, thank you for the insight!
As Kathryn stated, automated verifications might be able to help in letting you know when an asset owner in the system doesn’t match the asset owner in Google Admin. Another option could be setting up a rule for checking out devices where the system will automatically set a device checked out in storage. Conversely, you can also build a rule to send assets checked in into storage. That way, the asset status change wouldn’t be a manual process. Not sure how many statuses you all use though so this rule might be overreaching.
Also, this year we released Asset Exchange for switching out devices on one screen. Maybe this can also help your agents and I’ll relay that guide as well:
Hopefully, we can find that middle ground so you won’t have to worry about the assets being in the wrong status!
