Currently with all of our repair parts I have been adding their shelf location and ID to the desctiption (ex: Keyboards on Rack A>Shelf 1) but I would like to be able to assign them a home. I have seen where this can be done with assets but is this possible with parts as well?

Hey @SAnderson 39c19 cfschools,

This is possible to assign inventory by location. Once you establish the inventory, you’ll be able to transfer inventory from one location to another by clicking into the part, select the ‘Inventory’ tab, and then under location, you’ll have the option to transfer to another location. Here’s our guide detailing this process as well as other Parts information:

This should be what you’re looking for, but let me know if it isn’t!

Thanks for the quick response!

Right now we are already assigning to a location but for our storage area I would like to be able to look up a specific shelf ‘address’. The information specifics  I’m thinking would be something like Warehouse>Row 1>Rack A>Shelf 1

Hey @SAnderson 39c19 cfschools, thank you for the feedback and I understand now. I think the best way to handle this information would be through the Parts Description section or through a Parts custom field. The downside of both options would be that this field wouldn’t be directly correlated with the actual location (like how rooms with assets function), but if you create a custom field for the parts, you could make this a filterable item and be able to filter to find all parts in “Row 1” or “Rack A”.

So you could potentially create custom fields for the different location points:

Warehouse #

Row #

Rack #

Shelf #

And have this data be applied for classification purposes and filters. Hopefully, this workflow will work for you!
